Spotfire Training Courses
First and foremost, this course is not
a “basic” Spotfire training course. Although the training assumes no prior experience or knowledge of Spotfire, it delves deeply into visualization properties and complex interactive features such as multiple markings and filtering schemes. Specifically, how to configure bar chart, line chart, graphical table, combination chart, scatter plot, pie chart, table, cross table, and summary table visualizations is related in this course. General guidelines for when to use which visualization type is introduced to course participants. The course also covers the wide variety of data access options available to users including the use of Spotfire information links, but does not include the process of creating information links (which is covered in course SP151, Spotfire for Authors) or details for connecting to and working with in-database data (which is covered in course SP131, Spotfire Essentials II). In addition, the entire course focuses on the TIBCO Spotfire Professional analytical environment when working with only a single data table (working with multiple data tables is covered in course SP131, Spotfire Essentials II). And, since Spotfire documents may save links to the data supporting an analysis or may save data embedded within the document, these saving options are thoroughly discussed. Finally, the course shows how to export data or images to Microsoft® Excel®, Microsoft® PowerPoint®, PDF, or web-compatible file types. Spotfire 121
This course builds upon the concepts developed in course SP121, Spotfire Essentials I. The course teaches how to add columns or rows to an existing data table, using a variety of join methods, and shows how to add multiple data tables to a single Spotfire analysis and establish relations between tables. In addition to these in-memory data access options, connections to cube and relational database data sources is covered. Course participants will also learn how to manipulate existing data columns through binning, organizing hierarchies, or performing calculations. The remaining visualization types not covered in course SP121: treemap, box plot, map chart, 3D scatter plot, parallel coordinate plot, and heat map are covered in this course. Not only does the course relate how to create and configure these visualization types, but the utility and interpretation of each visualization is discussed. The aggregations and expression shortcuts which often define visualization elements are considered in this course. In addition, tools for capturing specific aspects of an analysis (like filtering, marking, or visualization layout settings), adding annotations, extracting lists of items, or relating data across multiple analysis sessions are presented in the capabilities of bookmarks, tags, and lists. Finally, the Essentials training would not be complete without a discussion of the next steps. Whether it is additional training courses or other resources available to Spotfire users, it is important to consider how to make the best use of these resources in order to be both efficient and effective in the application of TIBCO Spotfire Professional. Spotfire 131
This course is designed to cover all of the computational capabilities of Spotfire Professional, starting with the Spotfire expression language. Knowledge of the available functions and the process for building expressions, which may include property controls, allows course participants to impact a wide array of visualization properties, as well as generate calculated columns. The course also introduces the concept of Data Functions, which expands computational capabilities further by integrating with the internal statistical engine, TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R (TERR), or external engines such as S+, R, SAS, or MATLAB (while additional detail for integrating statistical applications is presented in course SP144). This course outlines the process for fitting and evaluating predictive statistical models, and provides details of the Lines & Curves section of visualization properties which hosts a number of options for generating calculated curves or drawing reference lines on visualizations. In addition, the course covers the Data Relationships tool which is specifically designed to organize data based on potential relationships between data columns. Finally, there are a number of tools in Spotfire which are focused on bringing order to multivariate data. Course participants will learn how to normalize data and perform line similarity calculations as well as k-means clustering and hierarchical clustering, then use those results to impact visualizations which are based upon that multivariate data. This course takes the Author role and considers it from two perspectives. Analysis is not possible without data; therefore, the first perspective is that of the Data Author. Course participants will learn about the Information Designer and how to create information links with filters and prompts, perform simple database joins, and understand the potential of parameters and procedures. Configuring On-demand data tables is taught as a mechanism for dealing with large data sources. And, an overall consideration for data access , including credentials, sharing, and data refresh circumstances is presented. From the second perspective of the Analysis Author, text areas are covered as a way of facilitating a guided analysis. Property controls and actions can be used to streamline the analysis experience or add capabilities for the Consumer, and filters can be included in text areas. If these features do not provide the capabilities Consumers need, scripts can be added to control specific aspects of the analysis. This course includes only an introduction to scripts (which is covered in detail in course SP232). The course concludes with a detailed discussion of the options for configuring each aspect of an analysis with the goal of optimizing the analysis experience for the Consumer. Design considerations for analyses used by Web Player consumers, Enterprise Player consumers, and iPad consumers are related, as well as the concepts of analytical dashboards and web mashups. Spotfire Training Classrooms are offered in two ways
Custom, On-Site Training
We understand that your business is unique and there is intellectual property within your data and models. We recognize that you may not be able to discuss your data and models in a public session. Therefore, we have developed a custom Spotfire training program that can be delivered on-site at your office to be the most relevant and offer the highest value. Custom training sessions delivered on your premises will allow you to open your visualizations and models with full confidence while being able to have in-depth conversation with our instructors about your specific needs and challenges. There is prep-time needed for us before we deliver custom training, so please keep the lead-time in mind when scheduling. We have a well laid out process that we will be happy to share with you about how we prepare you and ourselves for these custom TIBCO Spotfire trainings.
TIBCO Spotfire training courses are offered remotely, over the web, in convenience of your own office or home. All you need is a computer equipped with microphone, speakers, if you have a camera, all the better! We leverage the best technologies to offer an experience as close as possible to being in a physical classroom. You can be seen and heard using audio-video technologies, you can raise your hand, draw on white-board and more! This course offers the flexibility to each participant to cut down on travel expenses while maintaining the quality of interaction with the instructor. In our remote training sessions, we limit the number of participants to a maximum of four.
